This project is in our backyard: Ocean Beach. The project involved a complete kitchen renovation: the original kitchen had dated cabinetry, tiled countertops, and limited counter space. The goal was to open the kitchen to the living room, creating a stronger connection between the two spaces (with ocean views!) and a more convenient cooking space while modernizing the overall style. We maximized the space with a central island, custom millwork, and a built-in banquette with drawers for extra storage. We also exposed the ceiling to highlight the vaulted ceiling, creating a more expansive, airy space.
The designs drew inspiration from handcrafted ceramics, with speckled brown glazes and earthy shades of green and brown. We specified furniture and finishes that incorporated natural materials with a California modern aesthetic, including an olive green tile from the Heath factory in Sausalito. One highlight is the custom trestle dining table, which we designed in collaboration with one of our favorite local furniture makers, Matt Scanlan, featuring a half-moon detail to reference the sun setting over the ocean.
