mid-century treehouse

This magical treehouse-like home in Mill Valley, CA was ready for an update that would honor its 1970s character while creating a more relaxed, contemporary setting. One of the main goals was to reimagine the kitchen/dining areas to improve the indoor/outdoor flow. The floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the redwoods, which inspired an earthy palette and natural materials. We added ceramic light fixtures and floating white oak shelves for warmth, while furnishings influenced by Marin roots layer Scandinavian and mid-century design references into the home’s original architecture. We also transformed the primary bathroom, turning the windowless closet into an extension of the bathroom by adding a soaking tub. The new space feels more connected to the original architecture while creating a deeply personal, warm space.
