When we started thinking about the design concept for The Lodge, we knew we wanted to create a romantic chalet-in-the-mountains feel. The main venue has double-height windows looking out on the Catskill mountains, an epic brick wall fireplace, and cozy natural wood details. The architecture of the building is 1970's modernist meets old world 1930's European alpine hideaway. Its prior incarnation for many years was a charming upscale French restaurant aptly named "The Chateau", and we embraced the idea of referencing that French alps influence. We restored all the original wood doors and trim, and added hand-stained fir paneling. The vaulted pine ceilings, tumbled marble accents and aged European oak floors feel old-world yet current at the same time. We hand-selected both antiques and modernist furniture and lighting from estate sales and auctions around the Catskills, Hudson Valley, and NYC, as if the property owner had been slowly collecting pieces over the years that all tell a rich and layered aesthetic story. These walls have seen cozy candlelit dinners, raucous parties, and everything in-between, and we wanted to honor that history and also bring in its own revived narrative to set the scene for future gatherings.
